Things to remember when selling your delivery timber to Vida.
Contact us prior to felling
Vida Forest buys different types of timber to supply different industries. To remain competitive, we need a product range with the right lengths, dimensions and grades for our different industries. Delivery timber that matches the demands of our customers means that we can pay forest landowners better prices. That’s why it is important to make a contract before you start felling, so that we can include your wood in our delivery plans.
Signing a delivery timber contract with your timber buyer
• The timber buyer creates a timber order and sends you log tags.
• Check the lengths required.
• Inform the buyer if there are any road barriers or codes for such.
Prior to felling
• Check the measuring tape and leave a trimming allowance for thick logs.
• Review the product range guidelines.
Preparations
• Adjust any buttresses and felling combs to avoid wasted logs.
• Sawn wood should be thoroughly de-limbed.
• Sort by product-range type.
• Place the timber on an underlay and attach log tags continually.
• 1 log tag per 10m3 solid under bark is sufficient. Use small tacks to attach them.
Remember
• It can be better to stack the timber closer to roads to avoid transportation charges.
• Ensure that snow has been cleared.
• Aim to have at least 10m3 solid under bark per product-range type to avoid incurring small stack transportation charges.
Value cutting of delivery timber
